Nike x Artist: Todd Bratrud

November 2, 2011 in News

Over the years, Nike SB has collaborated many times with illustrator/artist Mr Todd Bratrud. He has been coming out with the craziest and dopest sneakers causing sneakerheads all over the world to break out their portable chairs and sleeping bags. He has also designed many things other than sneakers such as skateboards, t-shirts as well as bikinis.

The first ever collaboration between Mr Todd Bratrud and Nike SB was the Send Help Dunk High. Released in 2006, this sneaker featured an all suede upper with hits of light blue, white and black. He executed the sneaker with a matching light blue outsole. He also added a skeleton illustration on the insole. These features made this sneaker  a memorable start to Mr Todd Bratrud’s long term collaboration with Nike SB.

The next sneaker by Mr Todd Bratrud  was named after the artist himself. This Dunk High featured many interesting materials and colors. Most of the upper is a brown suede and along the back we see blue denim with a contrasting pink patent leather Swoosh. To compliment the pink Swoosh, the shoe features a pink bottom sole and pink sock liner. This mix of colors and materials caught many sneakerheads’ attention.

3 years after the release of his first sneaker with Nike, Mr Todd Bratrud released his craziest sneaker yet. This was the ‘Brain Wreck’ Dunk High. This sneaker features a mainly grey suede upper with a contrasting pink metallic toe box and tongue. The material Nike SB used on the Swoosh was rubber which speckles of glitter in it. This rubber is usually found on Considered Design Nike SB Soles. The sneaker also has the words ‘Brain’ and ‘Wreck’ at the heel and these words are also made from rubber that you see on the Swoosh. The inside of the sneaker featured a brain design which was stitched onto the padding. This is definitely a sneaker that will catch many peoples’ eyes.

Mr Todd Bratrud then designed another Dunk High in 2010, in the spirit of 4-20. Dubbed ‘The Skunks’, this shoe features a rough suede all over the sneaker. The suede on the shoe is mostly green but the interesting thing about it was the many shades of green featured on the sneaker. Also, the purple Swoosh really added a nice contrast in the sneaker. The tongue on the Skunks has an inner pocket which was a really special part of the shoe.

The next sneaker designed by Mr Todd Bratud was the ‘Cheech And Chong’ Dunk High, based on the two drugged out comedians Cheech and Chong, this sneaker features a canvas material around the toebox, the eye-stay, side panels and on the toebox of the Cheech and Chong. The special thing about this sneaker is the fact that when you burn the canvas ,it reveals a green accent. This one of a kind feature is definitely a reason to call the ‘Cheech And Chong’ Dunk High a special sneaker. The heel feature the pattern on Cheech and Chong’s bandana. He really pushed it with this sneaker.

The most recent release of a Todd Bratud collaboration was the ‘Cigar City’ Dunk Highs. This sneaker was inspired by the Tampa Cigar. This sneaker was not only a collaboration between Todd Bratud and the Nike SB crew but also SPoT skateshop. The sneaker is of many shades of brown and also has a red swoosh that gives the sneaker another shade of colour. The upper is mainly suede as well as a leather material. There were a limited amount of pairs that came in special boxes that come with special posters. The sneaker was definitely an interesting sneaker by Mr Todd Bratud.

The man has been at it for awhile now. We’re definitely looking forward to more dope and crazy designs by Mr Todd Bratrud. He has been using new materials, colors and concepts for each shoe and we definitely hope that this streak of crazy designs will continue on.

Nike SB Dunk Low Pro ‘US Passport’

October 12, 2011 in News

This month, Nike SB brought us many dope releases; Roller Derby Dunk Low and the Wino Stefan Janoski, one of the Dunk Lows that were released this month was the Nike SB ‘US Passport’ Dunk Lows. Reminiscent of the UK Passport Dunk Low, the US Passport features similar details to the UK Passport.

Around the toe box, up the eye-stay, the foxing and the Swoosh, features black suede and the rest of the shoe is in a navy blue suede. The guys at Nike SB complimented the navy blue suede upper with a navy blue mesh tongue, with Nike SB stitched in white on a black tab. Unlike the UK Passport, the US Passport does not have a full gold Swoosh, instead, it has a black suede Swoosh with the gold contrast stitching that really makes it POP. The mid-sole is white with a black bottom sole. Definitely a dope sneaker.

Nike Sky Force 88 Low Ltr QS x Mighty Crown

September 22, 2011 in News, Sneak Peak

We showed you just awhile ago a Nike Dunk High Premium x Mighty Crown collab. Here’s another model they’ve both teamed up with for Mighty Crown’s 20th anniversary.

The Sky Force 88 Low will sport 3M on the toe cap and 3M croc on the upper. While most shoes usually have bare midsoles, this one gets the snake print treatment. Snake skin is also present on the heel tab and swoosh. Similar to the Dunk High, this will also sport a gold lace jewel and clear sole.

Together with the Mighty Crown Dunk High previewed earlier, the Sky Force will also released early October so do check with your local Nike retailer for release information.

Nike Dunk High Premium x Mighty Crown

September 22, 2011 in News, Sneak Peak

5 years ago, Nike teamed up with Mighty Crown on a pair of Dynasty Highs for the latter’s 15th anniversary. Fast forward to 2011, The Far East Rulers and Nike are back on the collaborating front on a pair of Dunk Highs that will not fail to excite and pique your visual senses.

Set for an October release, this pair sports a black on black scheme but contrasts pretty heavily with myriad fabrics on different parts of both sides. While putting together elephant print, wood embossed suede, matt croc skin, glossy snake skin, ostrich, distressed and regular suede, it still manages to not look over the top. A gold lace jewel and clear sole with dragon graphics at the bottom completes the overall dark albeit far more interesting collab.

Look out for these to drop sometime early October.

Nike Dunk Low SB (Quickstrike) ‘Roller Derby’ | detailed shots

September 22, 2011 in News, Sneak Peak

Some of you might remember the ‘Made for Skate’ Blazer SB that saw only a 24 pair release made specially for the Made For Skate event held in Netherlands back in ’08. Fast forward 3 years, and Nike SB has joined forces again with the guys behind Made For Skate and this time, on a pair of Dunk Low SBs.

Staying true to their skateboarding roots, they’ve gathered inspiration from the old Roller Derby skateboards that, when first introduced in 1959, had little or no features or functionality which are now common in skateboards. The shoes are made up of suede and distressed leather and take on a red and white colorway, imitating the color scheme on the roller derby decks. Contrastingly, wood embossed suede presents itself on the side panel. And for that added special something to complete the look, a graphic of a lady in that ol’ skool #10 Roller Derby skateboard is printed on the insoles.

Look out for these to drop early October. FYI, they’re a Quickstrike release.  Meanwhile, feast your eyes on the images below.
