Readers who follow my articles should know by now that I am a serious sucker for rare kicks. But what you may not know is that above everything else, it is the samples that really get me off.
And to share my love for these relics, it is my pleasure, and self gratifying nature that I present to you my rare sample series. First up, a little something truly ICONIC to kick it off. Presenting, the AJI that could’ve been, the “Big John”

Prototypes that are publicized come few and far between. Hence, its a rare treat that we get to feast our eyes on such a beauty. One that eventually became the sneaker which started it all.

With a obviously higher ankle support, different mid sole and alternate form of mudguard, it is very different yet still hugely reminiscent of our beloved AJ1s. Nonetheless, I am loving the quirky structure of these kicks.

However, different it may be, these samples were made exclusively for Nike’s Sales Manager of that time, yes you guessed it, nicknamed Big John. And I must add, these were kept in a pristine condition considering its age and nature. Rare indeed.

And they don’t come in better than these babies. So ladies and gents, slowly savor the make up of these relics and realize how big a part it played in creating our beloved AJ1s today.
Kudos to the people at Sneakernews and their source zoopreme700 for the info and pics.
