Collaborations have always played a major part in the sneaker game, no matter which brand or kick. And as such, this is how some of the many sneaker grails are born, out of the holy (or unholy) wedlock of sneaker and iconic brands.

One such illustrious marriage of brands was the one collab between Nike and Sony. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the release of the Playstation 2 , one of THE consoles that revolutionized the gaming world to date, Nike and Sony released news of the creation of a collaborated design of the timeless Air Force 1 in ‘05, naming it the Playstation AF1. Done in the iconic colours of Playstation packaging with the legendary PS logo sitting proudly on the outer heel area, this was gonna be one sick pair of kicks, and the sneaker world knew it and smelt the grail scent.

But as with most grails, exclusivity was the key to its status. News broke that a numbered production of a 150 pairs was  made ONLY for key personnel in the creation of the PS2 as well as the usual people at Nike. The numbered pairs were needless to say well conveted among the sneaker community with prices tagged at nearing 2000 USD a pair initially. But the clincher was that another production was made, this time without the numbering and these were given to celebrities at various Nike and Sony events that year. Such people who got a pair? NBA star Kobe Bryant, Sneaker Icon Bobbito Garcia, Rap Superstar Jay Z and many others.

Before long, the Playstations popped up at consignment shops around the world and  as usaul Ebay, fetching nearing 2300 USD a pair. And these were only the unumbered ones, with the actual 1 - 150 ones even rarer finds. 2.3k for a piece of joint history, between one shoe giant and one electronics powerhouse, what’s there not to drool over these sick kicks?
